We're not. If there was a half-decent alternative sandbox space mmo, CCP would be bankrupt already. However that is a dangerous numbers game to play, acting like they are now is not something we will forget, and when a competitor inevitably DOES show up, we're all gone like yesterday.
In addition to that, just because there is no alternative does not make us hypocrites for demanding the "excellence" and quality or service CCP has promised us over and over again.
